Mechanism of Action (MOA):

• Losartan: Selectively blocks angiotensin II receptors, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.
• Hydrochlorothiazide: A thiazide diuretic that inhibits sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys, increasing urine output and decreasing blood volume, thereby lowering blood pressure.

Dosage and Administration:

• The recommended starting dose is one tablet (50 mg Losartan + 12.5 mg Hydrochlorothiazide) taken orally once daily.
• Depending on individual response and blood pressure levels, your healthcare provider may adjust the dosage.
• It’s advisable to take the medication at the same time each day, with or without food.
• Ensure adequate hydration and monitor blood pressure regularly during treatment.

Side Effects:

• Common side effects may include dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting, especially when rising from a sitting or lying position.
• Other possible side effects are nausea, headache, dry mouth, upset stomach, weakness, increased uric acid levels, increased blood lipids, glucose intolerance, and electrolyte imbalances.
• If any severe or persistent side effects occur, seek medical attention promptly.

Drug Interactions:

• Concurrent use with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or salt substitutes containing potassium may lead to hyperkalemia (elevated potassium levels).
• Combining Repace H with lithium can increase the risk of lithium toxicity.
• Alcohol consumption can further lower blood pressure and may cause side effects; it’s advisable to limit alcohol intake.
• It’s important to inform your healthcare provider about all medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, to avoid potential interactions.

Precautions:

• Repace H is not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to potential harm to the developing baby.
• Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairments.
• Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes is advisable during treatment.
• Avoid sudden discontinuation of the medication, as it may cause a rebound increase in blood pressure.
• Keep out of reach of children and store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
