Active Ingredient:

• Warfarin Sodium

Mechanism of Action:

• Inhibits the synthesis of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors, thereby reducing blood clot formation

Indications:

• Prophylaxis and treatment of thromboembolic complications associated with atrial fibrillation and/or cardiac valve replacement
• Reduction of the risk of death, recurrent myocardial infarction, and thromboembolic events such as stroke or systemic embolization after myocardial infarction
• Prophylaxis and treatment of venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism
• Prevention of transient ischemic attacks

Dosage:

• Dosage must be individualized based on the patient’s INR (International Normalized Ratio) response
• Initiate therapy with a loading dose, followed by maintenance dosing adjusted to maintain the target INR range

Major Side Effects:

• Bleeding complications
• Skin necrosis
• Purple toe syndrome

Precautions:

• Regular monitoring of INR levels is essential to ensure therapeutic efficacy and safety
• Use with caution in patients with a history of bleeding disorders, liver or kidney impairment, or those undergoing invasive procedures
• Avoid abrupt changes in dietary vitamin K intake
• Inform healthcare providers of all concurrent medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, due to potential interactions
