Product Overview:

• Lintor M 1000mg Tablet combines two antidiabetic agents, Linagliptin and Metformin Hydrochloride, to effectively manage blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Mechanism of Action:

• Linagliptin: A Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases incretin levels, enhancing insulin secretion and decreasing glucagon release, thereby lowering blood glucose levels.
• Metformin Hydrochloride: A biguanide that reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal glucose absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake.

Dosage and Administration:

• The recommended dose is one tablet taken orally twice daily, with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with Metformin.
• Dosage should be individualized based on the patient’s current regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability.
• Do not exceed the maximum recommended daily dose of Linagliptin 5 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 2000 mg.

Precautions:

• Not recommended for patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Prior to initiation, assess renal function; contraindicated in patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) below 30 mL/min/1.73 m².
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment due to the risk of lactic acidosis associated with Metformin.
• Monitor for signs of pancreatitis; discontinue if suspected.

Side Effects:

• Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite.
• Linagliptin may cause nasopharyngitis and cough.
• Hypoglycemia can occur, especially when combined with sulfonylureas or insulin.
• Rare but serious side effects include lactic acidosis and pancreatitis.

Drug Interactions:

• Concomitant use with medications that impair renal function or have significant hemodynamic effects may increase the risk of lactic acidosis.
• Alcohol intake may potentiate the effect of Metformin on lactate metabolism; advise patients to limit alcohol consumption.
• Inform your healthcare provider of all medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking to evaluate potential interactions.
