Mechanism of Action (MOA):

• Paracetamol, also known as acetaminophen, works by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins in the central nervous system and peripherally blocking pain impulse generation. It also acts on the hypothalamic heat-regulating center to produce antipyresis, thereby reducing fever.

Dosage and Administration:

• Infants (up to 1 year): 0.5 mL (50 mg) every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not exceeding 4 doses (200 mg) in 24 hours.
• Children (1 to 6 years): 1 mL (100 mg) every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not exceeding 4 doses (400 mg) in 24 hours.
• Children (6 to 12 years): 2 mL (200 mg) every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not exceeding 4 doses (800 mg) in 24 hours.
• Administration: Use the provided dropper to measure the appropriate dose. Administer orally, directly into the mouth or mixed with a small amount of liquid. Shake well before use.

Side Effects:

• Paracetamol is generally well-tolerated. However, possible side effects include:
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching, swelling)
  • Gastrointestinal disturbances (e.g., nausea, vomiting)
  • Rare cases of hematological reactions (e.g., thrombocytopenia, leukopenia)
  • Hepatotoxicity with excessive dosing

Drug Interactions:

• Concurrent use with other medications containing paracetamol can lead to overdose.
• May enhance the effects of anticoagulants like warfarin with prolonged use.
• Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of liver damage.
• Consult a healthcare professional before combining with other medications.

Precautions:

• Do not exceed the recommended dosage.
• Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment.
• Not recommended for use in infants under 2 months without medical advice.
