Resert 25 mg

Mechanism of Action (MOA):

• Losartan selectively blocks the angiotensin II receptor subtype AT1, inhibiting the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. This blockade leads to vasodilation, reduced secretion of aldosterone, and decreased blood pressure.

Dosage and Administration:

• Hypertension: The recommended starting dose is 50 mg once daily. Depending on individual response, the dosage may be increased by 50 mg increments over several weeks, up to a maximum of 200 mg daily.
• Stroke Risk Reduction: Initiate with 25 mg once daily; after one week, increase to 50 mg daily. If necessary and tolerated, further increase the dose in 50 mg steps at intervals of at least one week, up to 200 mg daily.
• It’s essential to follow your healthcare provider’s instructions regarding dosage adjustments.

Side Effects:

• Common side effects may include dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting, especially when rising from a sitting or lying position.
• Other possible side effects are nausea, headache, dry mouth, upset stomach, weakness, increased uric acid levels, increased blood lipids, glucose intolerance, and electrolyte imbalances.
• Seek medical attention promptly if severe or persistent side effects occur.

Drug Interactions:

• Concurrent use with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or salt substitutes containing potassium may lead to hyperkalemia (elevated potassium levels).
• Combining Resert with lithium can increase the risk of lithium toxicity.
• Alcohol consumption can further lower blood pressure and may cause side effects; it’s advisable to limit alcohol intake.
• Inform your healthcare provider about all medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, to avoid potential interactions.

Precautions:

• Resert is not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to potential harm to the developing baby.
• Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairments.
• Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes is advisable during treatment.
• Avoid sudden discontinuation of the medication, as it may cause a rebound increase in blood pressure.
• Keep out of reach of children and store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
