Mechanism of Action (MOA):
- Losartan selectively blocks the angiotensin II receptor subtype AT1, inhibiting the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. This blockade leads to vasodilation, reduced secretion of aldosterone, and decreased blood pressure.

Dosage and Administration:
- Hypertension: The recommended starting dose is 50 mg once daily. Depending on individual response, the dosage may be increased by 50 mg increments over several weeks, up to a maximum of 200 mg daily.
- Stroke Risk Reduction: Initiate with 25 mg once daily; after one week, increase to 50 mg daily. If necessary and tolerated, further increase the dose in 50 mg steps at intervals of at least one week, up to 200 mg daily.

Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting, especially when rising from a sitting or lying position.
- Other possible side effects are nausea, headache, dry mouth, upset stomach, weakness, increased uric acid levels, increased blood lipids, glucose intolerance, and electrolyte imbalances.
- Seek medical attention promptly if severe or persistent side effects occur.

Drug Interactions:
- Concurrent use with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or salt substitutes containing potassium may lead to hyperkalemia (elevated potassium levels).
- Combining Resert with lithium can increase the risk of lithium toxicity.
- Alcohol consumption can further lower blood pressure and may cause side effects; it’s advisable to limit alcohol intake.
- Inform your healthcare provider about all medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, to avoid potential interactions.
