Product Overview:

• Lipta-M 500 Tablet combines two antidiabetic agents: Linagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, and Metformin Hydrochloride, a biguanide. This combination is used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially when diet, exercise, and monotherapy do not provide adequate blood sugar control.

Mechanism of Action:

• Linagliptin: Inhibits the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), leading to increased levels of incretin hormones. These hormones enhance insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release, resulting in lower blood glucose levels.
• Metformin Hydrochloride: Decreases hepatic glucose production, reduces intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.

Dosage and Administration:

• The recommended dose is one tablet taken orally twice daily, with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
• Dosage should be individualized based on the patient’s current regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability, not exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose of Linagliptin 5 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 2000 mg.
• Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is advised to assess efficacy.

Precautions:

• Not recommended for patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
• Monitor renal function before initiating treatment and periodically thereafter.
• Discontinue use if signs of lactic acidosis or pancreatitis occur.

Side Effects:

• Common side effects include gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and loss of appetite.
• Other possible side effects are nasopharyngitis (common cold) and cough.
• Serious but rare side effects may include lactic acidosis, pancreatitis, and hypersensitivity reactions.
• Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, persistent nausea, vomiting, or signs of an allergic reaction.

Drug Interactions:
