Mechanism of Action (MOA):
Rosuvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme responsible for converting HMG-CoA to mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol. This inhibition leads to decreased cholesterol synthesis in the liver, upregulation of LDL receptors, and increased clearance of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream.
Dosage and Administration:
- Adults:
- Initial dose: 5 to 10 mg once daily.
- Maintenance dose: 5 to 40 mg once daily, depending on individual response and therapeutic goals.
- Pediatric Patients (8 years and older):
- 5 to 20 mg once daily, based on age and clinical response.
- Administration:
- Can be taken with or without food.
- Swallow tablets whole with water.
Side Effects:

- Myopathy and rhabdomyolysis

Drug Interactions:

Precautions:

- Hepatic Impairment: Contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of liver transaminases.
- Pregnancy and Lactation: Contraindicated; may cause fetal harm.
