  • Generic Name: Rosuvastatin 5 mg
  • Class of Drug: HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitor (Statin)
  • Dose: As prescribed by the physician

Mechanism of Action (MOA):

Rosuvastatin works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme responsible for the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver. This inhibition leads to a reduction in hepatic cholesterol production, resulting in increased uptake of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream and a subsequent decrease in overall blood cholesterol levels.

Dosage and Administration:

    • The recommended starting dose is 5 mg once daily. Depending on individual response and therapeutic goals, the dose may be adjusted up to a maximum of 40 mg once daily.
  • Elderly (Over 70 years):
    • A starting dose of 5 mg is recommended. No dose adjustment is necessary based solely on age.
  • Renal Impairment:
    • For patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) between 30-60 mL/min/1.73 m², initiate with 5 mg once daily (do not exceed 20 mg daily). Avoid use if eGFR is less than 30 mL/min/1.73 m².
