• Veltam 0.4 mg Tablet is a medication primarily used to alleviate symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as an enlarged prostate gland.
• Manufactured by Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd., each tablet contains 0.4 mg of Tamsulosin Hydrochloride, an alpha-1 adrenergic antagonist.

Mechanism of Action:Tamsulosin selectively blocks alpha-1 adrenergic receptors located in the smooth muscles of the prostate and bladder neck. This action leads to muscle relaxation, resulting in improved urine flow and a reduction in BPH symptoms such as difficulty in urination and increased frequency.

Indications:Veltam 0.4 mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with BPH. It is important to note that while it alleviates symptoms, it does not reduce the size of the prostate or prevent its progression.

Dosage and Administration:The recommended dose is one tablet (0.4 mg) taken once daily, approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day. For patients who do not respond to the 0.4 mg dose after two to four weeks, the dosage may be increased to 0.8 mg once daily. If therapy is interrupted for several days, it should be restarted at the 0.4 mg dose.

Contraindications:Veltam 0.4 mg Tablet is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Tamsulosin or any component of the product. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of orthostatic hypotension.

Precautions:

• Orthostatic Hypotension: Caution is advised as Tamsulosin can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing, leading to dizziness or fainting.
• Cataract Surgery: Patients scheduled for cataract surgery should inform their ophthalmologist about the use of Tamsulosin due to the risk of Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS).

• Severe Liver Disease: Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
