Mechanism of Action (MOA):

• Paracetamol works by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins in the central nervous system and blocking peripheral pain impulse generation. It also acts on the hypothalamic heat-regulating center to reduce fever.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults and Children over 12 years: 500 mg to 1,000 mg (1 to 2 tablets) every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not exceeding 4,000 mg (8 tablets) in 24 hours.
• Children 6 to 12 years: 250 mg to 500 mg (½ to 1 tablet) every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not exceeding 2,000 mg (4 tablets) in 24 hours.
• Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew.

Side Effects:

• Paracetamol is generally well-tolerated. Possible side effects include:
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching, swelling)
  • Gastrointestinal disturbances (e.g., nausea, vomiting)
  • Rare cases of hematological reactions (e.g., thrombocytopenia, leukopenia)
  • Hepatotoxicity with excessive dosing

Drug Interactions:

• Concurrent use with other medications containing paracetamol can lead to overdose.
• May enhance the effects of anticoagulants like warfarin with prolonged use.
• Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of liver damage.
